Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin
The “Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin” is a center of national and international literature supply. It preserves extensive stocks to all subject areas. With more than 25 million different media, the “Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin” is the largest scientific universal library in Germany. The collections include books, manuscripts, autographs, maps, prints, picture albums, newspapers, estates, electronic resources and much more. Estates of scholars and writers as well as extensive publishing archives are scientifically developed and evaluated in the public library. Their stock – also on databases and other electronic resources – is constantly growing.
After reunification in 1990, the library was conceived as an institution in two houses. The House “Unter den Linden” is therefore a historical research library. There will also be found the special departments for handwriting, children’s and youth books, maps, music and newspapers after completion of the construction work. The house on Potsdamer Straße is a modern research library. It also preserves the regional collections of Eastern Europe, the Orient and East Asia.
